Hello friends
Brevity is a revised version of an earlier poem, Blue Butterfly.
The poem is about my Primary School Art Teacher who, sadly, committed suicide with an Elephant rifle.
She was a kind soul who recognised my introversion and sensitivity and made an effort to foster my creativity. We shared few words, but enjoyed the familiarity of old friends. I will forever associate her with blue butterflies, because she collected butterflies, painted them, sketched them, wore butterfly jewellery, and butterfly Art adorned the classroom walls. To me, she was a butterfly. She possessed the grace and beauty of a butterfly, and, as it turned out, the brevity of a butterfly’s life too.
I would love some feedback…I’m including one of these poems in the poetry collection that I’m working on and am interested to know your preference and why? You can let me know by voting or commenting, or both.

Brevity punctuated our relationship
her name dissipated in memory’s history
but the longevity of her essence prevailed
¨
– my blue butterfly –
her diaphanous wings, etched
with teardrops
her midnight eyes, colonised
¨
– mysterious melancholy –
Magnetic;
aroused a mysterious resident,
unafraid of propinquity,
altered the blue ratio of thoughts
resonated with inaudible incarnations
fluttered with each heart beat of youthful maturity.
¨
– invasive melancholy –
Possessive;
m o r p h i n g
from visitor, to occupant, to master
flowers…siphoned of scent
…drained of colour
Flight, suspended.
¨
Her wings disintegrated
as the elephant exploded
The elephant and the butterfly
¨
Brevity punctuated our relationship
but time is
p o w e r l e s s
to smudge her memory
Her blue wings at peace
in my heart.
